Teaching at the Institute of Statistics
Statistical methods help economists in different fields of their work, e.g. in research on markets and business cycles, insurances, industrial quality control and general interpretation and processing of data. If you do not want to rely on other peoples' results, but want to analyse data yourself, basic statistical knowledge is often not sufficient. In the elective statistics lectures you will therefore learn about more complex methods of analyzing data.
Aims of study
- knowledge of typically statistical problems in Economics and Business Administration
- Methods to find solutions to these problems
- be acquainted with the general deductive methods of conclusion in statistics
- be able to identify the limits of statistical methods
After this you will not be an expert on all methods, but the knowledge gained will enable you to extend your armamentarium of statistical methods on your own if needed.
