Profile of the Institute of Statistics
Over the last few years making decisions based on scientific findings from the analysis of statistical data has become increasingly important in economics. Statistics develops methods serving in the collection and analysis of data. Today, this empiric approach is widely used in almost all areas of economics which makes statistical knowledge requisite for every economist.
The Institute of Statistics focuses on the development of new methods of analysing financial markets. Another research focus is risk measurement for financial institutions, especially the influence of statistical model risk. Also, the Institute of Statistics is a member of the research group for Financial Markets at the Faculty of Economics and Management. It is well connected to practice and one of the founders of the Hannover Center of Finance.
